As you probably remember, past year’s floods basically destroyed the Freestyle spots in Graz on the river Mur. The “Bootshaus”, the little home of the Freestyle Kayaks, is still standing but both Radetzky and Terminator have suffered severely.
Despite the efforts to help them recover (a big thanks to Marcel Bloder here for all his effort) both spots are currently extremely dependant on the water level and, thus, do not allow for a fair competition to be held.
We have some good news, though. A third wave has been built next to the Augarten, further down stream from the Radetzky. However, this spot is close to the right shore. Consequently, it is neither open to public access, nor can a competition be held there due to what the shore looks like (e.g. no space for judges, etc.).
The previously mentioned reasons were, after careful consideration, considered too substantial. The organisational team thus regretfully decided not to hold a Graz 2013 competition.
Nevertheless – we are quite confident that 2014 will see spots that will once again guarantee quality competitions, and the event will be as successful as ever.
We sincerely hope that you will understand this decision and are looking forward to welcoming you back in Graz in 2014.
We’ll see you all at the Kajak Freestyle Wildalpen on 6th July 2013!
